Soma is the hero of Food Wars! and son of a family diner owner. His father closes the diner to work overseas. In order to follow in his father’s footsteps and reopen the diner, Soma enrolls in Tsuki Culinary Academy. Ever positive and confident in his cooking abilities, he gladly accepts and challenges anyone to a cooking battle.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma:

The series opens with Soma defending his family diner from a city planner. But soon after, his father announces he’ll be closing the diner and encourages Soma to enroll in Tsuki Culinary Academy. Upon passing a difficult entrance exam, Soma announces to the students of the academy that he will become the top cook in the school. After a rough few days and a few food battles with the other students, Soma and his classmates are sent to a cooking training camp. The camp is a grueling test for Soma, but he manages to come out relatively unscathed.

With the camp behind him, Soma prepares for the academy’s first large event: the Autumn Election. As a participating member of the election, Soma has to survive multiple cooking battles to establish that he’s the top cook among his first-year peers. The season ends with the completion of the preliminary rounds of the election.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate:

The second season picks up with the end of the Autumn Elections. Soma faces many skilled opponents in each food battle. But, the people he needs to impress the most are the judges.

After hard-fought battles in the election, Soma and his classmates enter a brief internship program where he learns from professional chefs. But, he hits a few walls when he interns with an academy alumnus. Overcoming the challenge of the internship, Soma returns to the academy ready for his next challenge.
