Over half the population of the city of Sakurada possesses superpowers. With so many superpowered individuals coming and going, it can be difficult to keep track of them all. Here are the various superpowered characters and their abilities encountered so far.

The story of Sagrada Reset takes place in the rural city of Sakurada, where a majority of the population possesses special physics-defying abilities. People living within the city develop various superpowers, but upon leaving the city border, they lose their memory of the existence of these superpowers and how to use them. The plot centers around the main characters, Kei Asai and Misora Haruki, whose abilities, when combined, allow them to alter events to prevent unfortunate outcomes.

[Note: This article contains major spoilers for Sagrada Reset.]

Sagrada Reset has always been about people combining their abilities to achieve what they could not individually. Various combinations of superpowers have been used to do the impossible, like bring back the dead. Currently, Sagrada Reset is approaching a climax in its story, with a nefarious plot to eliminate all the powers in the city, so let’s take a moment to go back and look at all the various powers that have appeared and consider how they will come into play in avoiding this disaster.

How the Characters Sagrada Reset Pulled Off the Impossible

Kei Asai

Power: Eidetic memory.

First appearance: Episode One

Details: Kei’s ability allows him to retain the memory of any experience with absolute clarity down to the most minute detail. Kei is able to retain his memories even after a Reset (see below) which allows him to use his pre-Reset memories to change the outcome of events post-Reset. His ability to keep his memories appears absolute and he appears to be the only human in existence who is theoretically able to retain his knowledge of the superpowers of Sakurada (and how to use his own power) even after leaving the city boundaries.

Weaknesses: Kei is unable to forget anything, meaning that psychological wounds are far more lasting and that strong wishes and desires—like the wish to right wrongs—can become obsessions.

Misora Haruki

Power: Save and Reset

First appearance: Episode One

Details: Misora is able to “Save” the state of the universe. By using a “Reset,” she is able to revert the universe to the state in which it was last Saved.

Weaknesses: Misora can only Reset a maximum of up to 72 hours prior. She cannot save twice within a 24 hour period. When she Resets the universe, her own memories are also Reset, meaning she does not even remember doing a Reset. Due to the trauma of her schoolmate, Sumire Souma’s death, Misora is incapable of using a Reset without explicit verbal instructions from Kei.

Sumire Souma

Power: Clairvoyance through memories

First appearance: Episode One (Power reveal: Episode Ten)

Details: Sumire is able to see an individual’s future memories by conversing with them.

Weaknesses: Sumire’s power requires her to talk with an individual to activate. Because she sees a person’s future through their memories, if their memory is altered, erased, or otherwise compromised, she will not get an accurate vision. While she is able to see the future, she appears unable to change it, leading to such actions as taking her own life because it is deemed necessary in her visions.

Tomoki Nakano

Power: Vocal transmission

First appearance: Episode One

Details: Tomoki can transmit audio to any person or persons at any future point in time.

Weaknesses: The transmission is one-way. Tomoki also needs to be able to image who he is sending the transmission to—although he doesn’t necessarily need to know them personally. There is no way to stop a transmission.

Yousuke Sakagami

Power: Power duplication conduit

First appearance: Episode One

Details: By touching someone, who is using their power, with his right hand, Yousuke can duplicate that person’s power to anyone he touches with his left hand.

Weaknesses: Physical contact is required. Yousuke himself does not gain any abilities. Yousuke only duplicates the effects of the first person’s powers as if the second person was simultaneously using the first person’s power too. The second person does not gain any conscious control over the first person’s powers. The duplication is one-way.

Mari Kurakawa’s Mother

Power: Create life

First appearance: Episode One

Details: Creates a living human being out of thin air.

Weaknesses: The power appears to be activated due to intense mental agony, e.g., the loss of one’s daughter during childbirth. The created being is permanent. It will live, breath, eat, sleep, grow, etc.

Youka Murase

Power: Contact nullification

First appearance: Episode Three

Details: By specifying a body part and a specific thing, Youka can disintegrate the specified thing if it comes in contact with the specified body part. The specification itself is very broad, allowing Youka to nullify the effects of forces, like gravity, other powers, like a Reset, or even abstract things like “things that get in the way of me and my target.” Youka can also stack the effects of her power, nullifying multiple things at once.

Weaknesses: Things that are nullified are restored after a short period of time. However, this does not restore the effects of the nullification while it was in effect—blood lost due to wounds does not regenerate immediately, and the dead are not restored to life. Youka’s power is particularly susceptible to her subconscious. If she subconsciously does not want to nullify something, even if she uses her power, it will not work. Due to psychological trauma, Youka is incapable of using her ability specifically against another person.

Ryouji “Hitsuchi” Yoshii

Power: Knowledge

First appearance: Episode Three (Power reveal: Episode Four)

Details: Ryouji is able to convert knowledge into nutrients. This knowledge can be obtained from others, allowing Ryouji to drain people’s memories.

Weaknesses: Ryouji cannot obtain nutrients any other way. If he absorbs too much from an individual, he can unintentionally kill them.

Seika Nonoo

Power: Feline sympathy

First appearance: Episode Three

Details: By entering a trance-like state, Seika is able to link her mind with cats. (Writer’s note: The best power in the series)

Weaknesses: In order to use her power, Seika must first enter a trance-like state very similar to sleep. This means that her power takes time to activate.

Mirai Minami

Power: Knowledge retention

First appearance: Episode Four

Details: Minami can retain knowledge. Unlike Kei, she doesn’t appear to necessarily remember everything or be immune to the effects of a Reset. However, she is immune to effects that would drain her knowledge. Even after death, she is capable of remaining as a ghost.

Weaknesses: She isn’t necessarily smart as a result. Her ability to remain as a ghost requires that she die first.

Sawako Sera

Power: Reflection escapism

First appearance: Episode Five

Details: Sawako is able to send her consciousness into a world inside reflections.

Weaknesses: Activation of her power is more subconscious than conscious. Once inside the reflection world, Sawako cannot consciously leave it.

Hiroyuki Sasano

Power: Photographic world

First appearance: Episode Six

Details: Photographs taken by Mr. Sasano become their own photograph worlds. By tearing one of his photographs, people can enter into the world captured in the photograph for ten minutes. People in the photographs can be talked to and retain the memory of the people they had when the photograph was taken. Things within the photograph world can be taken out, but—unless specific conditions are met—they still are subject to the time limit and disappear after ten minutes. The effects of Mr. Sasano’s powers on his photographs remain even if Mr. Sasano loses the ability to use his own powers.

Weaknesses: To enter a photograph, the photograph must be torn specifically at the location where it was taken. The world outside of the field of view of the photograph does not exist. By leaving the field of view area, you are automatically transported back to the real world.

The Witch

Power: Clairvoyance

First appearance: Episode Six

Details: By touching an individual, the Witch can see that person’s future.

Weaknesses: Her power requires physical contact to activate.

Kagaya

Power: Stasis

First appearance: Episode Six

Details: By touching an object with his right hand, Kagaya can Lock that object, placing it in stasis where it cannot be altered or harmed, even by the effects of a Reset. By touching a Locked object with his left hand, he can Unlock it.

Weaknesses: Kagaya’s power requires physical contact to activate.

Eri Oka

Power: Memory control

First appearance: Episode Six

Details: Eri can alter a person’s memory in any way.

Weaknesses: Eri’s ability requires that her subject look into her eyes for a short period of time. The effects of her memory alterations can be broken if an existing, more powerful contradictory memory is recalled. Eri can only apply one memory alteration on a person at a time. If she applies a second alteration, the effects of the first alteration are cancelled. Eri’s power does not work on Kei.

Masamune Urachi

Power: ???

First appearance: Episode Ten

Details: The extent of Masamune’s powers have not yet been revealed. However, we have been shown that he was able to fix a broken keychain simply by holding it. Masamune’s powers also allow him to erase his own memory somehow—something he does with somewhat alarming frequency—completely subverting Sumire’s clairvoyant abilities.

Weaknesses: Unknown

Sakuin

Power: Colorful emotions

First appearance: Episode Twelve

Details: Sakuin’s ability allows her to visually see other people’s emotional states as colors. In particular, when someone is lying, she sees them as the color red.

Weaknesses: Unknown

Sasane Ukawa

Power: Matter control

First appearance: Episode Twelve

Details: Sasane has absolute control over inorganic matter. She is able to manipulate it in any way and to any extent.

Weaknesses: Sasane has no control over organic matter.

Honoka Katagiri (Michiru)

Power: Dream world

First appearance: Episode Twelve

Details: Honoka is able to create an entire world in her mind while she sleeps. The world is identical to the real world in many ways, including details that Honoka herself could not know. By sleeping nearby her, people are able to enter Honoka’s world.

Weaknesses: The world is ruled by Honoka’s subconscious mind. Honoka’s power cannot extend beyond her own dream.

Old Man from the Stray Cat House

Power: Recording

First appearance: Episode Thirteen

Details: By holding a writing utensil in his hand, the old man writes down events that are happening in the world, even if he doesn’t consciously know they’re happening. He is essentially a log-keeper for the history of Sakurada.

Weaknesses: His power functions regardless of his own will. If he holds a writing utensil, he automatically records events, whether he wants to or not.

Sagrada Reset is approaching a climax in its story and most of the major pieces appear to be in place. Now, all we need to see is how they will come into play. As previously stated, Sagrada Reset is about people combining their abilities. I’m looking forward to seeing how the characters will come together to solve whatever impossible problems arise next.

Sagrada Reset can be viewed with English subtitles on Amazon Anime Strike and on AnimeLab in Australia.
