This weekend, the smartphone game, Fate/Grand Order, celebrated its second anniversary with a two day event. While there was no fan cosplay, the official cosplay on display was fantastic.
For the official event cosplay, seven characters were featured. There was an official stage area set up where the characters would come out to pose for photographs, and the characters were switched out at regular intervals.
The characters featured were the heroine, Mash Kyrielight, Leonardo Da Vinci, Gilgamesh, Nero Claudius, Scathach, Jeanne d’Arc, and Jeanne d’Arc Alter. Considering their costumes were professionally made by the company that designed them all, yeah, they looked like they had stepped right out of the game. They posed wielding various weapons from the replica display which also added to their atmosphere of authenticity.
Did I mention that Gilgamesh’s Ea actually lights up and spins like the real McCoy?
Aside from the official cosplay, there were other professional cosplayers at various booths throughout the event whose costumes were equally impressive.
There were also three deformed character mascots running around generally causing chaos.
All in all, everything, along with all the displays and merchandise made for a celebratory atmosphere of fan jubilation. It’s not every day that you celebrate an anniversary, so if you’re going to do it, I say go all out.
Fate/Grand Order can be downloaded from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store. The anime special inspired by the game—Fate/Grand Order -First Order—can be viewed with English subtitles on Daisuki, Crunchyroll, and AnimeLab.
