The Bilibili booth at the AnimeJapan 2017 event at the Tokyo Big Sight venue is listing that a project to adapt late light novel author Tomohiro Matsu (Mayoi Neko Overrun!, Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!) Hatena Illusion series of novels is currently in the planning stages. The advertisement does not list the format of the anime (TV, movie, OVA, etc).

The story of Hatena Illusion revolves around Makoto, a boy who moves to Tokyo in order to become the apprentice of a famous magician. His childhood friend nicknamed Hatena is the daughter of the master magician.

The novel project was started by Matsu and manga artist Kentaro Yabuki in 2014, but was left unfinished when Matsu passed away in 2016.
