My very own anime journey began with the beginning of Ash’s journey from Pallet Town. The newest film in the Pokémon franchise was just announced to be Gekijōban Pocket Monster: Kimi ni Kimeta! (lit. Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!) and it’s pulling on all the nostalgia strings in my heart.

The movie–which looks like it will finally be featuring the legendary bird Ho-oh as a prominent character–will premiere in Japan on July 15, 2017. The nostalgic theme of this movie seems fitting, as the franchise just celebrated its twentieth anniversary this year.
The last Pokémon film–Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel–premiered this past summer in Japan. It premiered on the Disney XD channel in North America earlier this month.
