The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance
Arslan Senki: Fūjin Ranbu (JP)
Sequel to The Heroic Legend of Arslan
Genre: Low Fantasy
Season: Summer 2016
Premiere Date: July 3, 2016

Introduction

Yoshiki Tanaka began his Arslan Senki (The Heroic Legend of Arslan) fantasy novels based on the Persian epic Amir Arsalan in 1986. The novels were adapted into a manga by Chisato Nakamura in Kadokawa Shoten’s Asuka Fantasy DX magazine as well an original video animation (OVA) series from 1991 to 1995.

After years of no movement outside of the novels, Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa began a brand new manga adapting the series in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2013. An anime based on this version began broadcasting in Japan in 2015, and ran for 25 episodes. A second season was announced shortly after the end of the first series, with some staff (CG director, modeling director) being changed for the sequel.

The story has inspired two video game adaptations: a strategy RPG for the Sega Mega-CD in 1993, and a crossover with Koei Tecmo’s Warriors series of action games titled Arslan: The Warriors of Legend for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in 2015. The latter was released overseas in early 2016.

Story

The vessel of the king will be tested.

Pars, a great kingdom supported by trade and fertile land, has its peace stolen from it in a single night by the invasion of the heretical country Lusitania. Having experienced great defeat on his first time on the battlefield in the clash between Pars and Lusitania, a young prince named Arslan loses his home and kingdom to the enemy. With the help of Daryun, the greatest knight with the title of Mardān of Mardāns only given to the strongest warriors, Arslan begins a journey to take back the kingdom’s capital, Ecbatana.

Gaining victory in battle after battle, the two are joined by Narsus, Elam, Gieve, Farangis, Alfarīd, and Jaswant, who become reliable and strong allies. Prince Arslan also gains strength and grows through his many experiences, making him a leader that can protect and guide those around him.

However, the capital is still so far away. After safely overcoming a battle for the throne of the kingdom Sindhura, Arslan and his friends triumphantly return to Pars. However, they are stopped from moving forward by the silver-masked general Hilmes. Although they force him to retreat and restart their journey to the capital, a new threat is already creeping up on the land of Pars.
